This course is an 8 hour class that offers new shooters a chance to begin learning about pistols and pistol shooting from NRA certified pistol instructors. The program gives the student a chance to take their first step into learning to safely handle a pistol.

As part of the course the student will learn:

  • How to safely pick up a pistol and check to ensure it is unloaded
  • The common parts of both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols
  • How to grip a pistol and aim it using the sighting system
  • Body positioning also known as stance or shooting position
  • How to adjust sights on your firearm if needed
  • Choosing a firearm for you – the purpose of the firearm
    • Home Defense
    • Concealed Carry
    • Target shooting
    • Competitive Shooting

The course includes actual shooting experience in a dedicated training range and is designed to give the new shooter a comfortable place to learn about firearms safety and the wide range of shooting sports. The course is taught by instructors that are Illinois Certified Police Officers or prior Military from our area that are handpicked for their skill and proficiency in teaching firearms skills in a relaxed friendly environment that encourages open dialog and questions. At the end of the course each student will receive an NRA completion Certificate. This certificate provide the educational foundation that enables the student to take more advanced courses offered.
